The Jazz Ensemble & Jazz Singers performed at the Fresno City College Theatre on Thursday Oct. 27. Both groups have been working hard since the beginning of the semester towards performances like this, starting with auditions and then going into intense rehearsals. FCC music instructor, Mike Dana, who leads the Jazz Ensemble band, enjoys putting both groups together.
“It’s really cool, some people maybe only knew one jazz group, but hearing them together expands the audience for both groups,” Dana said.
The Jazz Singers, led by FCC music instructor, Julie Dana, also feel the connection from performing with the Jazz Ensemble band.
“It builds a sense of camaraderie by the end of the semester. We’re a big group and we support each other in our weaknesses; it makes the group stronger,” said jazz singer first soprano, Emma Lenigan.
“It’s the best they’ve ever done; both groups did a great job,” said Julie Dana, who also said that the Jazz Ensemble band played “wonderfully.”
