The 2013 Table Mountain Concert Series which took place in the Paul Paul Theater at The Big Fresno Fair was an expansive lineup mixing country, classic rock and soulful R&B. R&B group Boyz II Men played the fair’s opening night with serenading sounds of classic songs such as “On Bended Knee” and “Water Runs Dry.”
The group got the crowd singing along to fan favorite “End of the Road,” and mixed things up on stage with high-energy crowd feedback during song “Motownphilly.”
The R&B group has won four Grammys and has sold more than 60 million records.
Singer, songwriter and guitarist Boz Scaggs found time in his touring schedule to make an appearance in Fresno by closing out night two of the concert series Thursday night. Scaggs (former vocalist-guitarist of The Steve Miller Band) opened up remarkably, playing music old and new, by warming up the crowd with the mellow sounds of “Mixed Up, Shook Up Girl.”
The audience was whipped into a fun frenzy of rhythm and soul when the band’s featured singer Ms. Monét – Conesha Monét Owens — took to the spotlight to sing a medley of Sly & the Family Stone’s “Thank You.” The veteran singer-songwriter led a riveting performance accompanied by a six-piece band, complete with creative lighting effects.
The concert venue featured a remarkable set influenced by the mixed musical styles of jazz and blues that engaged the crowd and at times, kept them on their feet.
“Everything is far out and outta sight in the city of Fresno tonight!” shouted frontman and lead singer Jeff Keith of the rock band Tesla, as the group opened up night three with the Fresno Fair’s first weekend performance.
Tesla, the ’80s rock band known for its cover of the 1971 hit song “Signs,” played their famous rendition of the song.
The five-man band – which has toured with Alice Cooper, Poison and Def Leppard – got the jam-packed crowd rocking right away with the song “Modern Day Cowboy” which seemed to be popular with the crowd.
Tesla’s guitarist Dave Rude threw picks into the audience and Keith got the crowd amped singing classic fan favorites like “Mama Didn’t Raise No Fool” and “Taste My Pain.”
Bakersfield metal band Korn played to a sold-out crowd as they performed during one of the last weekend concerts being held at the Big Fresno Fair. Lead singer Jonathan Davis had his son join him on stage nearly the entire performance.
Korn performed newly-released songs “Never, Never” and “Love and Meth” from its upcoming album Paradigm Shift.
This concert was one of the few times the songs have been played live.
The band also rocked at keeping the energy of the crowd momentous and the audience on their feet, playing favorite hits “Dead Bodies Everywhere” and “Blind.” The band closed out the night’s performance with an exclusive cover of Pink Floyd’s “The Wall.”
