We all know the name “Malificent”; those infamous dark horns burned into the our childhood memories and striking fear into our hearts whenever we sat down to watch the Disney animated classic, “Sleeping Beauty”. For everyone awaiting this very promising visual marvel by director Robert Stomberg and starring Angelina Jollie, it is a masterpiece that everyone should experience.
From the very first teaser trailer, Disney has done an excellent job of captivating audiences and keeping them guessing as we are promised the secret that any fan of the animated film is surely dying to know: whatever made Malificent become the “mistress of evil” in the first place?
I will not spoil the answer for filmgoers who enjoy finding out for themselves and haven’t seen it yet. However, to audiences of every spectrum, there is something for everyone. The movie is chalked full of suspense, plot twists, romance, and even humor. Every question you may have or perhaps never thought of, is answered. The film is excellent at spellbinding the viewer with reference to the original story and pulling you back into the new reality of it. You can’t take a moment for granted.
Angelina Jollie’s performance as the infamous horned villainess is one of her best. Everything comes into fruition with the way in which Jollie portrays this character. We get to experience the Malificent we know, fear, and are intrigued by in the famous christening of Princess Aurora. The wicked laugh and the cool, calm, but menacing reserve in which she speaks is both nostalgic and new as we can now see and hear it from a living, breathing individual. However, Jollie brings a human interest aspect to this character that didn’t previously exist, which makes the overall experience of the film all the more enjoyable. And if you’ve seen the trailers, you also know that Aurora and Malificent will meet, and that in itself is deliciously enticing enough.
Fans will walk out changed, for the story you thought you knew will forvever, never be the same.
