REVIEW: The Peanut Movie — Good Grief Charlie Brown
More stories from Michael Mendez
Good ol’ Charlie Brown, Lucy, Snoopy,Linus, and all of your favorite Peanuts characters are back for their first full length film in 30 years as Twentieth Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios bring the world of the Peanuts back to die hard fans as well bring Charles Schulz work of heartwarming, encouraging, and inspiring tales to a new generation.
The film starts off as Charlie Brown and and the rest of the Peanuts gang are playing outside in a snowy oasis as school was cancelled for the day, while playing the gang noticed that there is a new family was moving into the neighborhood one of them being a young child. Charlie Brown noticing that the new kid is a redheaded girl that he quickly develops a crush on. As Charlie Brown has always been child of self doubt never achieving any of his goals, this sparks him to make himself a winner in order to win her favor.
This is a animated film that brings the Peanuts world to 3D, this aspect to the film might put people on edge and possibly scare off hardcore fans of the series, but it was done in a way that keeps the style and feel of the series in tact. The characters look the same as they always have looked just in a 3D sculpt of themselves, with some of the the original drawings appearing in characters minds in thought bubbles.
One of the fears that moviegoers have when their beloved toys or television series that get remade or rebooted for a movie is the fear of the style and feel of it had to change, as it had to be modernised in order to appeal to the newer generation. Were in terms of Alvin and the Chipmunks, Smurfs, and Jem and the Holograms have tried but ended in failure.
Only in the animation is the only way the film gets modernized as the film is set in the same time frame of the 1950s as none of the children have laptops,Ipods, or cell phones, as the Peanuts gang goes outside and play hockey, and doing book reports with typewriters and good ol’ pencil and paper. It stays true to their conversations as Charlie Brown and Linus having a serious conversation over a cell phone doesn’t have the same feel or tone as they usually have that conversation in person.
The film has a lot of funny humorous part of the films that will have you you laughing for a good amount of the film. One of the enjoyable scenes is the movie as Snoopy used a typewriter as he visually describes the tales of him as the high flying ace going against his archenemy the Red Barron. As Snoopy tries to defeat him as well rescue his love interest in a puddle named Fifi.
The Peanuts movie is a film that knows what it is and doesn’t try change the feel as it try to entertain as well teach young child important life lessons. Sure this movie is targeted for children but it was done in a way that makes adults enjoy it as well , and wouldn’t hesitate to see it again.
