Wonder Woman: DC’s Savior
June 2, 2017
After films that weren’t well received like “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Suicide Squad,” fans weren’t expecting much from DC’s latest film “Wonder Woman,” but the film managed to surprise critics and audiences alike.
Set in the early 1900s and amidst World War I, “Wonder Woman” gives the audience what they like: an origin story that doesn’t go too deep into the sometimes cliché comic book world, but has an enjoyable plot that doesn’t need you to have read a comic book in order to understand it like other DC films have done in the past.
The action scenes throughout the film work well with the combination of CGI and amazing panoramic locations; it makes the film seem realistic and manages to make you feel as if they really were in the early 1900s.
The choice of casting seems perfect with Gal Gadot, the actress who plays Wonder Woman, not just being the pretty face in the film but giving the character depth and emotion throughout the entirety of the movie as well. Gadot does an amazing job of making it believable that she truly is a warrior princes.
The supporting cast was also good in giving the story more depth, especially Chris Pine as Steve Trevor and David Thewlis as Sir Patrick Morgan. Both characters gave the film great continuity.
DC has made it hard for fans to be excited about their movies. In recent years DC has seen Marvel take the lead in making great superhero movies; it hasn’t been since Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” that a DC film has been critically acclaimed, but this film may change that.
Overall the movie was great, only having a few drawbacks towards the end of the movie where the plot seems to get a bit twisted. However, that should not deter you from enjoying the great action film that is “Wonder Woman”.
“Wonder Woman” can be for DC what “Iron Man” was for Marvel; it can make fanboys and non-fanboys excited for a movie that everyone can enjoy.
