‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard’ Can’t Protect Him From Flopping
‘As a comedy “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” should be a hit, but as an action movie it leaves audiences wanting more. With big names like Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds leading this action-adventure comedy it seemed like it was meant to be the last great action hit of the summer, but this film falls short of expectations.
Directed by Patrick Hughes best known for directing “The Expendables 3” and written by Tom O’Connor who is a newcomer to the industry, the film focuses on the character of Michael Bryce.
A down on his luck high profile security guard, played by Reynolds, Bryce has to take Darius Kinkaid, a notorious hitman play by Jackson, to an international court where he will testified against a dictator who is on trial for genocide.
This film never takes itself too seriously which makes it a great comedy, but it also makes for the story to become less believable. The action sequences are cliche heavy and at times a bit ridiculous, which deters from the acting especially when Reynolds and Jackson are both known to be good action films stars.
One of the positive aspects of the film is the great chemistry created by Reynolds and Jackson that deliver big laughs throughout. With a supporting cast with the likes of Salma Hayek and Gary Oldman the film gets an overall boost thank to the good acting.
It seems like every summer there is this a movie that critics will unanimously dislike, but the audiences will be extremely entertained by.
That is the case with this movie. As much as the story gets predictable and some what boring, the comedy was really hilarious and carry the movie throughout which made for an enjoyable film.
Overall this film is good, the acting helps to forgive the predictable story for not delivering good action. So if you’re looking for good laughs this will be a perfect movie, just don’t expect much more from this action film.
