The start of your day can affect how the rest of your day goes. If you start your day stressed or half-awake it will set the tone of your day, so having a morning routine is important.
This may be hard for college students to accomplish due to the stress of school, personal life, and sometimes work.
So how do you create a morning routine?
You can start by creating a step-by-step list of things that need to be accomplished. While these things can vary from person to person there are some tips that are a bit universal.
- Set a peaceful alarm.
Some may argue that an annoying alarm helps them get out of bed, from recent studies conducted by Stuart McFarlane an annoying alarm may actually disorient oneself and set the tone for your day. So, setting your alarm to your favorite tune or something peaceful can be beneficial. - Limit screentime.
It may be tempting to check the latest happening on social media, but limiting screen time can help keep your focus on what’s important first. Maybe as a treat for yourself, whatever time you have before you go do whatever you have going on that day allow yourself to scroll on your phone. - Eat a nutritious breakfast.
A good nutritious breakfast can also be good for a morning routine. While it may be hard to remember. It’s important to eat something nutritious and affordable like a parfait cup rather than something quick like a doughnut or fast food because eating something nonhealthy first thing in the morning can give you less energy and because the first thing you eat will set your nutritional tone for the day. - Practice exercises.
Exercise can also be very beneficial to start your day. It doesn’t have to be a lot of simple stretches or if you’re feeling like doing a bit more, jogging can help wake you up and get the blood rushing. - Practice mental wellness exercises.
Mental exercises like taking deep breaths or meditating can also relieve any stress that you may have with the day ahead.
