Former Fresno City College football player, Jerry Manning Jr., and his father were shot just before 5:30 p.m. by unidentified gunmen at their home in Northwest Fresno.
According to ABC 30, Jerry Manning Jr.’s brother, five shots were fired at Manning while he sat in his car outside of his home. Soon after Manning came running to the door saying, “They’re shooting at me.” His father came to the door to help asking, “Who’s shooting at you?” The assailants then allegedly came to the door and fired upon his father also. Family members claim to know the gunman’s identity, however that information has not been publically released.
Manning is reported to be in critical condition while his father is in fair condition.
Fresno City College head football coach, Tony Caviglia said, “It was shocking and sad to hear the news of Jerry Manning Jr. and his father being shot… Our thoughts and prayers go out to them and their family.”
Manning was the cousin of former NFL star Ricky Manning Jr. After his son became ill and had to be admitted to Children’s Hospital, Manning removed himself from the team. His last game with the Rams was against Modesto on October 15.
“He was a quiet player and hard worker. The Fresno City College football family will collectively pray for a strong recover,” said Caviglia.
