During its meeting Tuesday, Fresno City College’s Associated Student Government discussed providing expense reimbursements to officers.
Student trustee Christopher Coronado introduced the measure, saying that while ASG offices are unpaid positions, many times officers used personal resources and money for official student government business.
During the discussion of the measure, ASG President Cindy Quiralte and Senator Gloria Dominguez said that they wanted reimbursement for parking permits.
Quiralte said that since ASG officers are unpaid, many, including Dominguez and herself, could not afford to buy a semester-long parking permit. She elaborated, saying that her car had been broken into twice in three weeks when she had parked off-campus. The ASG President reiterated that the idea of expense reimbursement was meant to discuss the possibility of reimbursing student government officers for travel expenses, namely gas mileage for officers when traveling on official business and per diem.
Currently, all students, staff and faculty, including Fresno City College interim president Tony Cantu, pay for parking permits.
The ASG senate did not take action on the measure.
Quiralte also appointed Senator Desteni Battle as the new delegate to the Student Senate for California Community Colleges for the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year.
