UPDATE: Senator James Demaree of the Associated Student Government has been suspended from the organization pending review from the Vice President of Student Services Christopher Villa. The suspension occurred on Thursday, Aug. 24.
Senator James Demaree, of the Associated Student Government, released a video on YouTube Wednesday night, in a series of videos in which he discusses his misgivings with the ASG.
This time, Demaree levied allegations against specific members of the ASG.
“I am herby stating that three people should either publically or individually apologize for their actions, or should resign,” Demaree said on YouTube.
Demaree has been vocal about problems he perceives within ASG. This is not the first time he has used YouTube in an attempt to get his point across. This time, however, Demaree got into some specifics.
Speaking about Legislative Vice President Rachel McKinley, Demaree alleged, “during Ram Ready she successfully fixed the raffle so that people she wanted to win prizes would win at the expense of others.” Demaree continued, “she had the dishonor of demanding that the raffle be rigged, and her friends win prizes, and used her authority of legislative vice president to do so.”
Ram Ready is an orientation event held for incoming freshman during the summer. McKinley has yet to comment on the allegations.
In the video, Demaree also had several things to say about ASG President Nathan Alonzo.
“The tyrant has lied, had unknown meetings with unknown persons to discuss senate business in direct violation of the Brown Act.”
Demaree said in the video that he full well expects to be removed from the ASG Senate after the video comes out.
“Although it is likely that I will lose my position, along with other things, let no one question my motives. Let no one question that I stuck by what I believed in, and let it serve as a message to those who are afraid to speak out, to do so, regardless of the consequences.”
