*UPDATE* – The original story omitted Matthew Elliott’s honorable mention for mail-in opinion writing.
The Fresno City College Rampage staff attended the Journalism Association of Community Colleges (JACC) Northern California conference on Saturday at CSU Sacramento.
JACC is a non-profit educational corporation that works with journalism students in California. It holds regional conventions every fall semester and state conferences every spring. That way, community colleges’ newspaper staff get a chance to see what other publications are doing as well as share their production experiences with each other.
This time the conference included on-the-spot, mail-in and bring-in competitions in writing, copyediting, photography, layout and illustrations as well as journalism workshops presented by media experts and editorial round tables.
The Rampage received 17 awards this semester.
