Former Fresno City College Student, Assemblymember Henry T. Perea came back to campus to speak to students about the importance of voting. Perea’s speech was apart of Latinos in politics in honor of Latino heritage month.
Perea opened the speech by walking away from the microphone and in front of the podium. He then proceeded to speak about his background to explain how he became a politician.
“My father pushed me to run for city council when I was 23 years old,” Perea said.
Perea spoke about the time he has spent in his first term as an assemblymember and his hopes for a second term in the upcoming election.
After the speech he took questions from the audience. The questions ranged from the California high-speed rail system to why Mexican Americans are manly Democratic and Cuban Americans are manly Republican.
Perea is currently obtaining his master’s degree from USC. After his political career is over he hopes to teach political science or political management at FCC or CSU Fresno.
“I would love to teach in the future,” he said.
