The Veteran’s Association held a book drive at Fresno City College on Jan. 11.The purpose of the book drive is to help student veterans have the textbooks they need for the semester, even if they cannot afford to buy them.
Some veterans cannot afford textbooks due to the GI Bills they have. “Veterans do not get everything paid for by the government. You only get so much, I don’t even get the full hundred percent” said veteran Matthew Campanile.
Textbooks in all subjects are accepted as donations for the book drive. Donated textbooks books are collected all semester. The books are returned to the Veteran’s Association at the end of the semester. To donate textbooks, see counselor Mario Reposo in the Veterans Office.
To get a textbook, you must have proof in the form of a syllabus from the instructor of the course. Textbooks will be given out to student veterans beginning on Jan. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the fountain area at FCC.
Students that may be eligible to receive textbooks are students that have served in the Army in the past 10 years, family members under the age of 26 of veterans who are deceased or are disabled due to serving and persons in reserve programs that meet certain requirements.
Academic advising or counseling is available to student veterans in the Counseling Department on the second floor of the Student Services building.
