Emmy-winning composer Peter Buffett listened to Fresno City College music students perform in M-S 135 today at 2 p.m. The performance featured City Singers, an FCC choral group, pianist Alex Jaech and the Intermediate-Advanced guitar class.
“I was just blown away by, well honestly, just how beautiful all of the performances were,” said Buffett.
Choral instructor and director Julie Dana described her appreciation of Buffett’s presence and the meaning that it held for her students.
“I appreciate that someone of that place and that status is so down to earth because I think it is important for us and especially you young people to see how real people can be,” said Dana.
Micah Byers, a piano and guitar performance major, echoed Dana’s sentiment by explaining how influential Buffett’s presence was.
“It was kind of mind blowing because me, personally, I want to go into film composition and my plan is actually to transfer to Northridge for composition,” said Byers, whose original composition for guitar was performed. “For someone who’s already in the business to be here and give me positive feedback saying ‘what you’re doing is right’ is very confirming for me and gives me this really good feeling that I am going in the right direction.”
