Dr. Allan Brian Calhoun, education instructor at Fresno City College, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment today on the charge of misdemeanor battery.
Calhoun waived his right to appear this morning and authorized his attorney, Roger Nuttal, to speak on his behalf. The judge started things off by issuing orders to Calhoun.
“I am signing an order at this time that precludes the defendant from having any personal contact, electronic or telephonic contact, [with the] protected parties, and not come within 100 yards of that person’s location,” said Judge Dennis A. Peterson.
Calhoun is charged with misdemeanor battery stemming from an incident that took place on March 22 where Calhoun allegedly attacked 19-year-old Kevynn Gomez, a student.
Neither Gomez or her attorney, Catherine Campbell, were present at the arraignment.
There is a pretrial hearing scheduled for Sept. 4, and the jury trial for this case is scheduled for Sept. 25.
FCC President Tony Cantu chose not to comment as to whether Calhoun is still employed at the college, stating that it is a personnel issue.
It is unknown how the school will handle Calhoun working on campus since he is ordered to stay 100 yards away from Gomez who is attending FCC in the fall semester.
