Jury selection for the trial of former Fresno City College instructor Brian Calhoun officially completed today at 3:30 p.m.
The court was prepared to call Michael Medrano, the instructor that was substitute teaching for the alleged victim’s Chicano-Latino studies class on March 22, but he was released because jury selection ran long.
The alleged battery victim, 20-year-old Kevynn Gomez, was also at Fresno Superior Court today, although she did not appear in the courtroom.
During the waiting period of jury selection, the Rampage’s News Editor, Pabel Lopez, was subpoenaed to appear in the trial by Calhoun’s defense attorney Roger Nuttall. Lopez recently wrote a profile of Gomez for the Rampage. Lopez is the second Rampage reporter to be subpoenaed for this trial.
Opening arguments will begin tomorrow at 9 a.m. and then the first witness will be called.
