A Fresno City College student was struck by an passenger Amtrak train near the McKinley and Blackstone intersection attempting to get to class Monday, Jan. 13.
“His mother attempted to persuade him to wait and let the train go by, but instead he tried to race it,” said Fresno Police Officer Anthony Flores. “Even though he was struck, the train did not make direct impact.”
The student’s name has not been released, but according to police he is in stable condition and being treated at Fresno Community Medical Center.
According to 2012 Federal Railroad Administration Statistics, California was ranked second nationwide for railroad accidents.

“When you have the warning signs going and a huge train coming, if you even come close [to the tracks] you are going to be lucky to be alive,” said Flores. “There are no ties when it comes to this.”
