Cynthia Azari, FCC interim president.

The Fresno City College interim president has announced that she has accepted a position at Oxnard College, the college president’s office said.

Cynthia Azari, who has led FCC since the death of former president Tony Cantu in April 2015, said her last day at FCC is May 20.

“As much as I love [FCC], I really need to be closer to my family,” Azari said in the special announcement to faculty.

Azari praised FCC for its “tremendously talented” faculty, classified professionals and administrators.

Azari said, “I’m really proud of how [FCC] has moved forward in providing innovative and quality instruction to our region.”

The revelation came just as three candidates, including Azari, made their pitch for the college’s permanent position as president.

An interim replacement has not yet been named.
