The State Center Community College District board of trustees elected Trustee John Leal as board president at its meeting on Dec. 13, according to a media release on Dec. 15.
The board also elected Bobby Kahn to serve as vice president and Eric Payne as secretary. The other board members include Miguel Arias, Richard Caglia, Ronald Nishinaka and Deborah Ikeda, who previously served as president of Clovis Community College.
Leal, the trustee for Area 3, which includes cities from Caruthers to Kingsburg and from Laton to Sunnyside, was the incumbent candidate in November’s election.
“I’m very proud of the work we do at [SCCCD] in empowering our colleges in their efforts to promote innovative educational opportunities,” Leal said in the press release.
Leal graduated from Roosevelt High School in Fresno and attended Fresno City College. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from California State University, Fresno and has his academic credentials as well as a master’s degree from Fresno Pacific University.
Leal was formerly vice president of the board and has served as a member since 2012.
