A kickoff celebration for Hispanic Heritage Month took place at Fresno City College on Sept. 14 during the monthly Club Rush at Veterans Square on campus.
The month marks a time to celebrate, honor and promote Hispanic culture.
Fresno High School Folklórico dancers performed, sharing the beauty of Mexican Folk Dance within our wider community. Club Rush also held booths ready to sign students on while promoting this event.
“It brings me back to my roots. In Mexico, we had this same event called Fiestas Patrias. So I really do love and enjoy this event,” FCC child development major Lidia Rodriges said.
Hispanic Heritage Month promotes unity and encourages students and faculty to participate by learning about Hispanic heritage and history, according to Janice Wong, the senior program specialist at FCC.
Julien Vendeas, a biology major at FCC, said that he appreciates that FCC is taking Hispanic Heritage Month so seriously.
“It’s a big impact on me because it feels like I’m part of both my heritage and my college community,” Vendeas said.
Hispanic Heritage Month also helps students to get involved in various clubs and organizations, enabling them to further develop their leadership and teamwork skills while also celebrating their cultural background.
FCC’s Hispanic Heritage Month Kick-Off gives various student clubs and organizations the opportunity to showcase their activities, recruit new members, and highlight the diverse range of opportunities available for students.
