On Oct. 11, 2024 the ribbon cutting ceremony for Fresno City College’s new $16.8 million Child Development Center took place.
Interim President Kim E. Armstrong started off the ceremony by addressing the attendees, thanking staff faculty and other professionals for their work and dedication. State Center Community College District Chancellor Carole Goldsmith, acknowledged that the $16.8 million building would not have been possible without the help of Proposition 51.
A tour of the Child Development Center shows the commercial kitchen to provide meals for the children and features observation rooms for students to oversee teaching activities.
The kitchen, classrooms and observation rooms are located on the building’s first floor. Faculty offices, instructional spaces break and conference rooms are located on the second floor, according to the FCC website.
“The new child development center is a commitment of the Fresno City College and the State Center Community College District’s commitment to investing in our future,” Armstrong said.
Children here are provided with an environment to learn and be nurtured, while future teachers are also trained.
“The community at Fresno City College, along with State Center Community College is here to make sure that we’re providing access to quality education for all of our students, regardless of their backgrounds,” she said.
Karina Guzman, a child development major, said the center sets the foundation for education and learning.
“It’s a very big learning environment. It’s a community effort, really just to help educate and get them ready for when they go off to either a new school or kindergarten,” Guzman said.
According to Guzman there is currently only one toddler class with another coming soon. There are also four preschool classrooms for children from ages three to five.
