A tattoo studio in North West Fresno is redefining norms in a male-dominated industry.
Candy Ink Tattoos, owned by Milana Salas and located at 2547 W. Shaw Ave., Suite 115, provides an inclusive women-centered space that empowers clients through fine line and glitter tattoos.
Salas opened the studio to address a gap in the Central Valley’s tattoo scene. She wanted to create an atmosphere where women feel safe and celebrated.
Salas’ experiences as a tattoo client, starting at 18, showed her the need for a space where women could feel more comfortable.
“Especially when you’re getting tattoos in areas where it would be uncomfortable for a random guy to tattoo,” Salas said.
The studio’s pink, feminine aesthetic and slogan, “Empowering Women Through Art,” reflect its mission to celebrate individuality and foster confidence.
“I just felt like I wanted something really girly,” Salas said.
The studio features bright pink walls and a vibrant, feminine atmosphere. It’s a sharp contrast to traditional tattoo shops, which can be considered dark and intimidating.
“For women to come into a space where they feel safe and comfortable to talk about problems—it’s so important,” Salas said.
Salas’ artistic style matches her studio’s ambiance, featuring intricate fine line designs and shimmering glitter tattoos, offering designs that resonate with her clientele.
The tattoos often feature soft, pastel colors and intricate details, such as butterflies and floral patterns, capturing a sense of both elegance and playfulness.
Salas said. “I love the fine line because I feel like it’s a more feminine look.”
Beyond aesthetics, Salas sees her work as serving a larger purpose.
Salas believes that her art allows women to express their true selves and empowers them to overcome challenges, especially when the work is personally meaningful.
Her advice for college students looking to pursue their passions or create inclusive spaces in their own fields is simple: “Follow your passions, follow your dreams, and don’t be afraid to start trends,” Salas said.
