The Fresno City College wrestling team has had a year that has been nothing short of amazing.
The wrestling team has been dominating opponents by having a special kind of determination and preparation taken into each match all season long.
On Nov. 14 at the FCC gym, the Rams showed how hard they’ve been working all season winning in a special way at the Dual State Championships against Cerritos Community College.
There were many supporters and fans cheering in the gym at the Dual Championships that created a great home field advantage FCC.
“It was an awesome atmosphere, and very electric with knowledgeable wrestling fans rooting for our team,” said wrestling coach Paul Keysaw.
The crowd in attendance was able to witness two FCC wrestlers that made it their night were wrestlers Chris Padilla (125-lb) and Lucas Keene (197-lb) who both defeated their opponents from Cerritos College that were ranked number one in state.
With their incredible passion and technique of wrestling they were able to help FCC win and defeat the same team that defeated FCC last year at the State Dual.
FCC dominated their competition this season going 13-0 with a conference mark of 4-0. The Rams will now shift their focus to the State Championships which will be next month in Victor Valley, Calif.
FCC has never been far from contending for a state title as they have had a top 10 finish at state the past five seasons.
“If we prepare and keep working hard, we have a realistic shot at winning state,” said Keysaw.
Although the Rams are one of this year’s favorites heading into the state championships, the wrestlers and coaches constantly remind themselves to stay focused and not to become too confident with their undefeated record.
Coach Keysaw knows his team has accomplished a lot this season and he would like nothing else but to see his wrestlers earned the best accomplishment which would be winning State as at team or as a individual.
“This is a special year and our wrestlers have come together becoming more intense, they feel it and are enjoying the ride.”
