The Fresno City College wrestling team has spent all season preparing for this.
The Rams came into the season with high hopes of becoming state champions and bringing the state trophy to FCC.
With this year’s team, head coach Paul Keysaw has had nothing but great expectations since the beginning of season for FCC.
Comparing this squad to past Rams wrestling teams, Keysaw wasn’t hesitanted in noting the differences.
“We have a lot depth so we have more than one good guy in each weight class,” Keysaw said. “It’s been a big advantage for us this year.”
FCC has seemingly dominated the competition all season long. Along the way, the Rams won another conference title and even took home a dual championship this season.
The team’s hard work has paid off and now they are one final step away from realizing their ultimate goal, a state championship.
One of FCC’s top wrestlers this year, Lucas Keene, explained that a state championship is what has constantly been on his mind since this season began.
“This year I’ve improved on my stand up game, more endurance, and determination,” said Keene who beat the No. 1 wrestler in the 197 pound weight class earlier this year at the dual championship.
Although that would be a great accomplishment to many, Keene thinks otherwise.
“My best accomplishment I would have to say is yet to come,” said Keene.
The Rams have had a great year so far on the mat, but are determined to finish the job and come home with the state title. Until then, the team continues to prepare for the state championships and remain focused as they head into their final event of the season.
The state championships will be held on Dec. 10th and 11th at Victor Valley College in Victorville, Calif.
