Since the appointment of coach Ron Scott in 1989, the Fresno City College baseball team has been State champions in 1992, runners-up in 2001, and 3rd place finishers on six occasions, the most recent being 2007. Scott has led the Rams to conference titles 15 times outright and another as a tie. This season the team will be looking to improve on last season’s 3rd place conference finish.
Coach Scott will be looking for the very best out of his players and has set his goals high, as he has done in seasons past. “Our goals are the same every year, we want to win our league, put ourselves in a good position playoff wise and be playing our best at the end, compete for a state title,” he said.
Rams come into the season with 14 sophomores and 18 freshmen. Scott has noted several players to look out for this season. “We have a nice blend of returners in Bryce Barger, Brett Bishop, Connor Buss, Will Rosado, Drew Merlo, and Sean Silva to go along with newcomers, Jeff Brown, the Valley player of the year from Buchanan, Gabe Perez, Jack Karraker, Chewey Telasco, Jackson Glines, Michael Tittle and Andrew Wild,” said Scott.
With the season fast approaching, morale is running high. “Our Camaraderie at this point is fantastic,” said Scott.
The off season was described as “great” by Scott and he seems happy with the progress made by the team during that time, saying “The team has improved in all areas.” The time has come to see if all the hard work in the off-season is going to pay off starting with a double header at home against Sacramento City College on the first Friday and Saturday of February.
