The Fresno City College womens basketball team finished its season with a 71-63 loss Mt. San Antonio College at the state semifinals on Friday.
The Rams fought back from a 11 point deficit in the first half, which was plagued with missed lay up, traveling calls and fouls.
Heading into halftime, the Rams picked up momentum to catch up with Mt. SAC.
Taryn Sayama lead the team into the second half with 7 points.
Returning in the second half was the Rams’ usual style of basketball. They women made more layups, controlled the ball better and put pressure on Mt. SAC 6 foot 3 inch forward Danielle Peacon.
Despite the swing in momentum, the Rams they were continued to find themselves in foul trouble.
FCC sophomore forward Nicole Chapple fouled out of the game with 2 minutes and 32 seconds remaining in the game having scored 18 points.
Rams head coach Brian Tessler decide to substitute freshmen without fouls for the sophomores in foul trouble, in a attempt to lengthen the game with free throw shoot. Unfortunately, the tactic didn’t work. Mt. SAC was still able to make free throws under pressure.
In their final game, sophomores Taryn and Sarina Sayama, Nicole Chapple Tabitha Torres and Sarah Mendoza combined for 58 out of 63 points.
The Rams finish this season 28-6 overall.
