The Fresno City College Rams suffered a last-minute loss against the City College of San Francisco Rams on Saturday night. The game proved to be a nail-biter throughout the second half as San Francisco stormed back from trailing 28-0.
The game began with an optimistic start for the Fresno City Rams with a 75-yard drive on their first possession, ending with a touchdown run in by running back James Holland. The first half of the match was dominated by FCC, whose ironclad defense oversaw a brutal and unflinching beat down of the San Francisco offensive line.
This was demonstrated by San Francisco’s first drive, when they were halted by an interception by Duron Singleton, who proceeded to run the ball in for FCC’s second touchdown, bringing the score to 14-0. From there, the Fresno City defense caused three fumbles, two of which resulted in touchdowns, giving FCC a commanding lead of 28-0.
San Francisco was able to score two touchdowns in the second quarter, while FCC scored one field goal, bringing the score to 31-14 at halftime.
It was in the second half of the game, however, that FCC game began to deteriorate. Their offense proved lackluster throughout and was plagued with holding penalties.
The CCSF Rams scored two consecutive touchdowns in the beginning of the third quarter, including a 98-yard kickoff return by Dezmon Epps. FCC’s defense struggled to hold on while the offensive game was constantly hammered by penalties that seemed to occur on every crucial play. CCSF receiver Andrew Spivey caught the game winning touchdown with nine seconds left and CCSF walked away with a 35-31 victory.
