The Fresno City College men’s basketball team thrilled the home crowd en route to a 103-82 win over Columbia College Wednesday night. With the win, the Rams improved to 5-0 in conference play.
Rams’ guard Colton Hafey started the game off with a 3-pointer from the corner, which ignited the Rams’ offense. The Rams also played swarming defense and forced multiple turnovers in the beginning minutes of the game. The fast paced game on both sides of the ball favored the Rams as they pulled off to a quick 12-2 lead.
Columbia clawed their way back into the game before the Rams’ Alex Perez took over the first half with his passing and scoring ability.
Perez made three 3-pointers and accounted for 10 of the Rams first 15 points with either assists or scoring the ball. Perez finished the first half with 15 points along with three assists and two steals. The Rams ended the first half with a 58-38 lead that kept Columbia on their heels and helped to set the tone for the rest of the game.
Perez would finish the game with a team-leading 21 points.
The second half was more of the same. The Rams started with a flurry of 3-pointers and multiple steals which seemed to frustrate Columbia and throw them off their game plan, The tension was visible between the Columbia teammates on the floor.
FCC guards Olajuwon Garner and Hafey scored 17 and 15 points respectively while forward Udun Osakue chipped in with 11 points.
Despite the win, Perez was quick to note the improvements the Rams would like to make.
“I thought we came out real complacent,” said Perez. “We didn’t come out focused. We need to do a better job communicating on the court.”
