Ten Fresno City College women’s soccer players announced which four-year universities they will transfer to at a news conference on Tuesday.
Friends and family of the players joined coaches Oliver Germond and Drew Mattos to announce the transfers.
Defender Alicia Kolter from Redondo Beach played one season at FCC. Kolter will transfer to Concordia University in Oregon and looks forward to her time at her new school. Kolter said she had learned valuable lessons during her time at FCC.
“I’ve always been a hard worker, but it has just been embedded in us here,” said Kolter.
Deidra Rueda, a Hoover high graduate, will transfer to Academy of the Art University in San Francisco.
“It was a real good experience. They taught me a lot. I grew as a player; I grew as a person,” said Rueda.
Other players who will make the jump are Marissa Pacheco and Lesslee Hernandez to Palm Beach Atlantic University in Florida; Lilly Ruiz and Sara Reed transferring to Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, Calif. Jasmine Woodruff and Midi Lyons to Newman University in Wichita, Kan. Goalkeeper Jasmine Cordova will play at Menlo College in Palo Alto, and Goalkeeper Simmi Nijjar will play at Claremont Mckenna College, both schools in California.
The 2012 team is coming off of a season in which they were Central Valley Conference Champions and finished the season with a record of 17-5-2.
Head coach Oliver Germond said “We’re just excited because obviously our goal is to be successful on the soccer field, but at the same time a big part of our job is to help our kids do well academically and to help transfer to a four year school. We feel good about what we do.”
