Head Volleyball Coach Tracy Ainger-Schulte and Head basketball coaches Brian Tessler and Ed Madec have weighed in on how college students can make changes to their lifestyle in order to be more healthy.
They agree students should exercise daily, drink lots of water, and avoid fast food and late night snacking. Now, Women’s Head Soccer Coach Oliver Germond gives his perspective on the issue.
- “I wouldn’t recommend diets, I would recommend nutrient guides that show what foods are beneficial to the body, and what foods are good choices to eat.”
- “The problem with diets are only temporary, they’re only available because they make money and it’s not going to be ongoing even after you’ve successfully completed the diet. It’s more about making lifestyle choices.”
- “Make healthy choices on a daily basis. Eat better by eating healthier foods.”
Germond also recommends packing your own lunch instead of going to a fast-food restaurant around the campus.
- “When you bring food from home you know what you put into your food.”
Small snacks and water throughout the day are better for you and make it easier to make healthy choices.
Germond also offers advise in regards to exercise.
- “Instead of driving to a local gym, you can put on a pair of running shoes and jog there.”
- “Students without the time to go to a gym can do pull-ups,sit-ups, bar-dips and push-ups.”
- “These workouts don’t take-up much time and don’t require weights.”
