Volleyball Coach Tracy Ainger-Schulte earned her 150th victory at Fresno City College with a win over Merced College on Oct. 11, making her one of the most successful coaches in the state.
Her total of wins surely puts her at the top of the list at FCC. Her path to FCC has been full of success.
After graduating from Reedley High School, she won three Golden State Athletic conference titles at Fresno Pacific University and helped lead FPU to two National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Final Four. Ainger-Schulte was also named an NAIA First Team All-American.
In 2003, she was named American Volleyball Coaches Association and NAIA National player of the year.
Since 2007, she has led FCC to six consecutive Central Valley Conference championships, finishing as high a third in the state.
“I’m always amazed that people can keep track of that. I can count more of my losses than wins, but I think it’s a testament to the coaches and players I’ve had in my seven years at FCC.
It’s definitely been a group effort.”
Ainger-Schulte’s impact with her players on and off the court is what makes her job ultimately worthwhile.
“If I haven’t had a positive effect on them, I’m in the wrong profession, and not in this job for the right reasons,” she said.
The FCC women’s volleyball team is streaking right now with an 8-0 record in the Central Valley Conference and a 15-4 record overall.
Ranked No. 7 in NorCal, they have swept every team they have faced in conference play so far.
“We came out a little slow in our last match (Merced College, FCC won 3-0), but we’ve had a good week of practice and we are looking to clean a few things up in this match-up,” she said.
FCC dominated West Hills College in a Central Valley Conference matchup on Oct. 16 with three sets to zero.
Brittany Black led FCC with nine kills, Sophomore Morgan Dose finished with seven.
FCC continued to cruise past the competition with another sweep against Taft College on Oct. 18 and College of the Sequoias on Oct. 23.
FCC stats against Taft College are 25-12, 25-14 ,25-18. Morgan Dose finished with 10 kills, Valarie Gobby, Brittany Black, and Katie Low all finished with six kills.
The team has survived a tough out-of-conference schedule and have taken a few losses against American River, Foothill and Cabrillo College, but these challenges have helped them in conference play.
“So far we’re handling things in conference, we’re playing our best volleyball right now.”
