Women’s Badminton Team Roaring to Start Season
With its first scheduled match on March 12, the Fresno City College women’s badminton team is preparing and hoping the players are ready for a winning season.
The team finished the 2015 season with a 4-2 record and just missed the state championship playoffs. With five of the six players returning, the athletes on this year’s roster are aspiring to make this season better than the last by making a run at the state title.
Head coach Carol Kadingo said that repetition is some of the best ways of improving her team’s play. It allows them to analyze their mistakes so it can be corrected at a faster rate.
“I think that we have a lot of potentials to compete in the conference this season. We have the experience and skill set to do well,” Kadingo said.
Second year returning player Wenting Liang says she will incorporate the experience she gained from last season to new techniques she has learned.
“I am feeling confident about my game with the coaches who trained me, and they’ve done their best with everything. From footwork, birdie placement, to team building. I [feel] I am ready heading into the season,” Liang said.
First year athlete Lucy Lor said she is both anxious and and eager to try everything.
“I am a bit nervous. This is my first year but I am excited to try out everything,” Lor said. “I have the skills to perform in both singles and doubles matches.”
The Rams hope to have a deep run this season with their conference and have a chance to defeat conference rival De Anza. The journey begins with the first match.
“It would mean a lot to win conference this season,” Lor said. “We are usually the school that finishes behind De Anza, so I hope to win the conference this season.”
