Rain & Softball Dont Mix
With heavy rain, within the last couple of days makes us realize it isn’t quite spring just yet. The weather has definitely taken its toll upon our girls softball team, here at Fresno City College. Due to inclement weather the Softball team hasn’t be able to practice accordingly.
Although there is an equal chance of getting injured during a game without rain, rain increases the chances of injury amongst players. With the field being soaked imagine how hard it would be to practice under those conditions. Freshmen Francia Sanchez 3rd basemen stated “ The weather was tough, especially during try-outs. The weather was our biggest enemy.”
Not to mention the rain forced the team to find alternative routes to condition. If there’s a will, there a way causing them to practice indoors instead of on the field. Sanchez also mentions “The weather has definitely affected practices. We had to work out in the gym, which was kind of difficult.”
Being faced with not being able to practice fully to their potential, the girls didn’t let mother nature discourage them at all. 1st basemen Amanda Mets expressed “…I think it was good for the weather to be like that; because once you see us at our worst, you know how strong your team really is. We worked really hard , we’re getting stronger from our weaknesses.”
As they continue to prepare for the upcoming season, Head Coach Rhonda Williams agrees that the weather has impacted them tremendously. Yet keeps the team motivated. Williams stated “ It has affected us a lot, we have plenty of stuff to do and plenty of things to work on so we adapting as needed.”
Although the softball team was faced with obstacles so early into the season there more determined than ever to get on the field. The team is scheduled for their first game February 2nd, 2017 here at Fresno City College at 2 p.m.
