Fresno City College Women’s Soccer celebrate after scoring a goal against Evergreen Valley College on Saturday Sept. 16, 2017.

The Fresno City College women’s soccer team took down the number one team in the nation Sept. 20 when they defeated Cerritos College 3-2 in an away game.

With goals from center Jasmine Garibay and forward Anissa Wilson in the first half, and one more from leftwing Sophia Zertuche in the second half, FCC took down Cerritos, making it the first time the Norwalk, California team lost a home game since 2012.

Cerritos, who was ranked number one in the nation by the United Soccer Coaches Association before the game, had an unbeaten streak of 54 wins at home.

FCC, who now has an undefeated record of 8-0, was ranked seventh in the nation on the same poll. Even though the Rams allowed two goals for the first time this season, it wasn’t enough to keep them from taking the win.

Rams look to continue on the path to a national title when they face Lake Tahoe Community College (3-1-3) at home on Friday, Sept. 22.
