Splash!! Fresno City Women’s Water Polo Drowned in Season Opener
The Fresno City water polo team fought to the end, but just couldn’t get it going as they lost their season opener to the Vikings of Diablo Valley by a score of 17-8.
Things were a little shaky from the start as Diablo Valley came out aggressive and kept pressure on the Rams as the first period ended with the Vikings on top with a score of 6-3. The second period was where things got away from FCC as Diablo Valley took advantage of some mistakes and ended the half on top of FCC 11-4.
FCC came out in the 3rd period looking for a spark and made sure the game wouldn’t slip away from them as they came out fighting, but Diablo Valley’s defense would not let them come back easily. Diablo Valley kept up the same pace and made sure the Rams could not make it a close game and by the end of the third period the score was becoming insurmountable at 15-7.
The Rams fought hard in the fourth period, but it just was not enough to pull an amazing comeback as the game ended in a 17-8 score going to the Vikings.
FCC was lead in scoring by freshman Jayden Chavez who accounted for four of the Rams total eight eight points. FCC does play in front of a home crowd until Wednesday Sept. 19, but they will be look to bounce back in their next game against Cuesta College.
