The Fresno City College women’s volleyball team picked up another 3-0 win against the Coalinga College Falcons on Nov. 15 – making FCC the number one team in the Central Valley Championship conference with a 16-0 winning streak.
The Rams were in a similar position last December, but they lost the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) Championship against the Grossmont Griffins.
In Coalinga, FCC dominated the game by securing 25 points in all three sets.During the first set of the match, the Rams had a tough time maintaining the lead over the Falcons, but they ultimately secured a win by 25-14 (1-0).
The Rams had a strong start during the second set, and they built a solid lead over Coalinga in the long run. That set ended with a score of 25-12 (2-0), and the team had to break a tie after they entered overtime in the final set of the match.
The final score in overtime was 27-25, and the final score was 3-0.
FCC student athlete Savanna FauntLeRoy spoke about the team after the match against College of the Sequoias on Nov. 13. She said it takes a solid team to outperform everyone within a championship-based competition, and the priority for her team is sisterhood.
“We have a lot of different characters on the team but we support one another and every person on the court and off the court,” FauntLeRoy said. “I think from the beginning that’s something that coach Roblee has really put into our heads, and I think that we exemplify that.”
FauntLeRoy said this is her first season playing volleyball for the Rams. She said she had never won a conference match until now, and she’s enjoyed her time with the team on the road.
“It’s an amazing experience to kind of come to a place where excellence is expected all the time,” FauntLeRoy said. “The pressure is definitely a lot different but I think it breeds what we do; and Coach Roblee does everything so successfully because of that.”
According to the current statistics listed on the (3C2A) website, the Rams are the 3C2A conference champions, with 3552 total attacks in the 30 matches played, with 1806 total points earned, 1343 kills and 1226 total assists in the season.
