The Fresno City College softball team is undefeated for seven straight games. On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, the Rams increased their winning streak by winning both games against Merced College.
FCC softball athletes had two seven-inning games against Merced College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
At the end of the first game, the score was 6-2. In the second, Rams beat Devils 12-4.
Head Softball Coach, Linda Garza, said her players performed great during both games, playing very well offensively by hitting four home runs and a triple.
“We knew that we were going to get opportunities to take some hats and to be able to offensively, get going and have some power. So when we had those opportunities, we definitely took advantage of them today,” Garza said.
Ashton Tapia, a FCC student in the stands, said the most exciting moment of the day for him was when the Rams hit two consecutive home runs in the second game.
“That really got the team fired up, and I think it just created an excitement, and everyone’s mood definitely changed,” Tapia said.
Third baseman Stephanie Sanchez said the key to achieving two wins was staying calm and knowing they could make adjustments during the match.
“We played well. We adjusted from the first to the second game,” Sanchez said. “It was just great team wins.”

FCC pitcher and first-year nursing student, Addison Lee, who hit a home run said she has not been hitting a lot.
“I felt really good to be able to show myself,” Lee said.
Coach Garza, after the second game shared a message for her team about the matches.
“Our message is always to when you get an opportunity to do damage, and you do have an opportunity to just to seize the moment,” Garza said. “And in order to get there, you need to be able to showcase your skill sets.”
“She emphasizes the process and that it’s not all about the outcome, it’s just how we get there,” Lee said.
Sanchez shares their hard work in practice is translating to the wins on the field.
“Our season was up and down. So these wins are helping us feel confident in what we’re doing, and what we’re doing at practice is showing up,” Sanchez said.
They couldn’t have won without having good chemistry with their teammates.
They’re still growing together, the team has a good bond.
“We could depend on each other,” Sanchez said. “Uplift each other when we know someone’s not having a good day.”
Sanchez and Lee used “united” and “successful” to describe the team’s performance.
Tapia, as an audience member, would have liked more people, especially students to support the team. According to Tapia, he appreciates the positivity and good spirits of the audience.

Even with a small audience of approximately 25 people, Garza is proud of the families and support system. She also encouraged people who don’t attend the games to show up and support.
“These are fun kids. They honestly are, and they need this support. They’re all Valley natives, and they deserve that opportunity,” Garza said.
The next game will be against Yuba College at the FCC softball field at noon on Friday, April 4, 2025.
