Gavin Ruland, Reporter
Gavin Mark Ruland was born on April 16, 2004 in Clovis at Community Hospital. Almost three years later his sister Ella would be born at the same hospital. Gavin’s mother Linsey had dreams of becoming a professional chef, therefore Gavin, his sister, and his parents moved to Los Angeles so his mother could attend culinary school. Gavin’s family lived in the Los Angeles area for a little over eight years, living in such places as Simi Valley, Northridge, Redondo Beach, and Tarzana before moving to Reedley California to be closer to family. When Gavin was in the 7th grade his
parents announced they were filing for divorce, towards the end of 8th grade Gavin’s mom got a job offer in Shaver Lake to be in charge of her very own restaurant in the mountains. Gavin and his sister would finish off their schooling in a small k-8 school in the mountain town of Big Creek. The school was drastically smaller than anything the Ruland siblings had ever been in. After Gavin finished 8th grade he decided he wanted to attend high school down in the city living with his dad and going to Clovis West High School for his freshmen year. After Gavin’s freshmen year of high school, his parents decided they wanted Gavin and his sister to be much closer so Gavin would finish off the remainder of his high school career at Sierra High School in Auberry California. He would alternate living with his mom and dad but mainly lived in Shaver Lake with his mother for school. Gavin needed some credits to graduate due to falling behind on a big majority of his classes so he took the remaining classes at the adult school next door and graduated just in time with a diploma from Sierra Adult School.
