James Pewthers, Sports Editor
James Pewthers was born and raised in Fresno, California. He graduated from Edison High School in 2019. He is a journalism major in his fourth and final year at FCC, and plans to move on to a 4-year university in the spring. His goal following finishing school is to work as a journalist.
James came to Fresno City College as an Honors student not quite knowing what he would do career-wise, and switched majors a few times in his first year. Coming from a musical background, he tried majoring in music at first but it did not click with him, especially as he became more interested in politics. He took a few political science classes, but the major was not what he expected.
After thinking about changing it again too many times to count, James chose journalism. During the early months of the pandemic, he took an interest in journalism and how it, at its best, is able to speak truth about the powerful and provide a voice to the voiceless. For that reason, he is interested in investigative and political journalism, but is also interested in sports and music journalism.
He had a good first semester with The Rampage last spring, taking on a variety of different stories, including some collaborative stories as well. Now that he has some experience, he will be editing the sports section this semester. He hopes to provide solid coverage of the different FCC teams having their seasons over the next few months.
