Lightning flashed in the backdrop as the Fresno City College Rams pushed past Merced City College in a 35-16 brawl Saturday Sept 22.
Sherman Lang had one of his biggest games as a Ram. He caught eight catches for a total of 102 yards, and played a pivotal role in the early stage of the game.
He did not allow his sprained ankle to get in the way of doing what it took to help his team win.
“I feel good about this game. I went out there and worked hard,” said Lang.
Even though the Ram’s led 14-7 at halftime, the defense struggled with frivolous penalties.
“Our defense wasn’t performing up to standards,” said defensive tackle Antonio Hartwell. “We had to come out in the second half and put in work.”
On the first play of the third quarter, the Rams running back, Raymond Neal fumbled the handoff.
That blow gave the ball to the Blue Devils on the Rams’ 42 yard line.
The tide was turning for the worse at the beginning of the third quarter. The Rams’ play continued to be riddled with mistakes.
The score was 14-14 with 10:43 left in the third quarter while the Blue Devil sideline had the momentum working in their favor.
With 6:38 left in the third quarter, Neal sprang loose in the Blue Devils’ backfield as he covered 69 yards in a score that turned the table and lead to the Rams’ eventual victory over Blue Devils 35-21.
Next Saturday the Rams will be taking their 4 – 0 record on the road to Sacramento.
