Voices from Fresno and The Australian Voices
On February 21, the Fresno City College and Fresno State choirs cohosted The Australian Voices.
The Australian choir, made up of young adults from different parts of the country, is touring California State Universitys on the way to a performance for the American Choral Directors Association meeting in Los Angeles on February 29.
When Fresno State was unable to host, Julie Dana, FCC choir director was contacted. She was excited to assist. Being the music director for St. Therese, she was able to arrange for the church to be available.
It came as a surprise when Australian Voices director, Stephen Leck, asked Fresno City College Choir to open for them. “It was almost an impromptu performance,” said Dana. Their program consisted of songs from last semester and some that they had only just begun to learn.
Director Leck said “it was nice to share a concert. It rarely happens, most of the time it’s just us out there.”
FCC choir is also planning an international tour and is organizing fundraising events for a trip to Spain in the summer of 2009.
