Construction crews working on the Old Administration Building struck a water pipe this morning that resulted in the emergency shutoff of water across much of the campus.
For the thousands of people currently on campus, restroom use was greatly restricted.
However, at approximately 3:30 p.m. water was fully restored.
During peak traffic hours Dr. Guy F. Lease, interim President of Fresno City College debated whether or not to close campus. The problem however, never escalated to warrant such a decision.
According to construction workers on-site, the pipe was hit around 8:45 a.m.
Crews tried to repair the water situation for hours. According to Brian Speece, Associate Chancellor of Business and Operations, “There was a broken line, and they shut off the water to fix it, and when they went to open it back up the stem fell through.”
A spokesperson for Classified staff said that for much of the morning and early afternoon, most of the campus water was shut down, and there is low pressure in the rest.
Only the restrooms in the following buildings were working: Media Center, Language Arts, Math and Science Building, the gym, and in the cafeteria.
