As the fall season rolls around and the leaves begin to change their color, so dawns the reopening of the Big Fresno Fair. This much anticipated event gathers thousands of local and general persons from in and out of California.
This year’s 125th annual event started on Oct. 1st and ended on the 13th and featured several new attractions.
For over one hundred and twenty years, the valley has celebrated local agriculture and arts. Though the fair has been going on for years, many feel that it begins to lose its appeal as we get older. The fair committee set out to change that.
“The Big Fresno Fair is proud to have something for everyone!” said Danielle Debouef of the fair’s communications department. “There are so many activities that appeal to the demographic it just depends on their individual interests.”
The Paul Paul Theatre attracts many every year for its nightly concerts. This year’s entertainment included Chicago, Pepper, Smokey Robinson, Sean Kingston, and Camp Rock star Demi Lovato.
The Livestock Pavilion attracts many students along with people of all ages. This year, the fair changed the Birthing Center to the Crystal Ag Ventureland Exhibit. While still featuring baby animals, the exhibit aimed to educate fair goers on the important of our water resources.
The Fine Arts and Photography building has always been a major draw to the fair. Some Fresno City College Students had some of their most prized photography up on display.
New to this year’s Big Fresno Fair was the Land O’ Lakes Butter Laser Shooting Gallery. It’s pretty self explanatory, just think of the locally owned Laser Quest.
The carnival rides are truly what the masses come for; that and, of course, the food. These two attractions are the heart and soul of every fair.
By far the greatest ride ever invented, the Gravitron, sents its passengers sprawling on the walls as it spins and twirls in an endless circle of joy.
Charlie’s Chicken offered some bizarre and new forms of edible “something.” This year’s new additions to the menu includes Totally Fried Poptarts and Totally Fried Spam. Yum!
This year truly had something for everyone. Even with busy school and work schedules, we definitely made time to check out what this year’s fair has to offer. The new exhibits were interesting and informative. Who knows, maybe you may be a part of it next year!
